Slovenská sporiteľňa has a new member of the Board of Directors for retail banking. It is Juraj Barta, who has led key digital projects in the bank in recent years including George, the transformation of retail banking and innovation in our approach to data. The European Central Bank has given final approval for Juraj’s appointment to the Board of Directors.

Juraj Barta looks forward to continuing progress in his new role: “This is another step in our mission to become our clients’ best advisor for life and business and a digital leader in Slovakia. It will be a pleasure and privilege for me to work with the best retail team in our banking market on this mission to benefit our clients, our bank and Slovakia, and to make sure we all enjoy it too.”

Juraj joined the Board of Directors from his position as director of the Digital & Omnichannel Paths Division. Juraj has the DNA of Slovenská sporiteľňa in his blood, having worked for the bank for nearly 18 years. He was responsible for market analysis, and later held roles such as the bank’s chief economist and head of marketing. More recently, he has been responsible for the development of electronic channels and digital sales. He has managed key digitalisation projects (George, the bank’s new website). He oversaw efforts to find new ways to sell services through digital channels and to benefit from data. He led the bank’s digital transformation in the retail segment, including the establishment of several labs. He is a member of the Erste Group Digital Strategy Board. He graduated from Comenius University in Bratislava, where his specialisations were physics and management.

Peter Krutil, the CEO and chairman of the Board of Directors of Slovenská sporiteľňa welcomed the appointment: “I am glad that Juraj is taking over retail management because he has dedicated nearly his whole professional life to our bank. He knows Slovenská sporiteľňa perfectly, with a wealth of experience of digital and retail projects, including the launch of our most significant innovation, George. Like the rest of the team on the Board of Directors, I am looking forward to even more intensive cooperation in future.”
